Businesses
More than 5,300 new businesses opened their doors in the Columbus Region in 2005. That number is high, but not surprising. Our history is steeped in entrepreneurialism so successful, it has evolved into a business community notable for its corporate giants. Now the large corporations (including eleven Fortune 1000 companies, and six Fortune 500 companies) are serving as springboards for a new crop of entrepreneurs from whom the next corporate successes will emerge.Large or small, all of the businesses you'll find here have a healthy respect for the need to balance work with life. Maybe it's our Midwest values or just plain old-fashioned common sense, but the CEOs who run our most respected corporations, as well as the entrepreneurs who are creating the next generation of businesses, know that Columbus is a place where individuals can succeed without sacrificing their personal lives.
